Influence of polymer structure and amount on microstructure and properties of polyethylene-modified asphalt binders

Abstract In recent years, the use of polyethylene (PE) for asphalt modification has been gaining increased attention due to environmental sustainability and cost-saving benefits. To optimize performance PE-asphalt blends, it is necessary understand polymer-binder interactions their impact on properties modified binder. this study, low-density (LDPE) with low high melt flow index (MFI), i.e., LDPE4 LDPE70, were blended Pen 60-70 binder in dosages ranging from 1 5 wt.%. PE Wax was also added or PE-binder blend enhance dispersion. The dispersion phase stability investigated by optical microscope. equivalent diameter domains time polymer dosage level. addition wax improved dispersity blends. LDPE70 blends good without adding Wax, attributed higher MFI value (low molecular weight) LDPE70. addition, binder, steady shear viscosity-temperature profile these binders studied using a rotational viscometer. dynamic rheological evaluated rheometer.
